What we do and how this affects you

Information about what we do

The Parish Council looks after your village. For some things we have direct responsibility, for others we have no direct responsibility but we can influence the higher levels of local government and ask them to take action.

Most of the things we look after are very local, and they affect your everyday life. For example the Village Green would have grass a metre high if we didn’t look after it. We have provided all the new children’s play equipment, had it installed and ensure it is properly maintained. We keep the road verges and the Green clean and make sure the local trees for which we are responsible are properly inspected and looked after.

High on the list of other things we do not control, but can influence, is Planning. We carefully review every planning application, listen to those of you who might be affected, and make a report with our opinion to West Oxfordshire District Council. We do not make the final decision, but our opinions can count. We are also lobbying Oxfordshire County Council to improve public transport for our village.

The money raised by the Precept on your council tax bill, enables us to to do these things.

There are only eight Parish Councillors and we serve a community of over 2000 people. We know quite a bit about what goes on but we don’t know everything that happens in the village so if you think something should be done – about anything – do let us know. Ideally come along to our regular meetings, or contact us by email or phone your local Councillor. We can’t promise to solve everything, but we can promise to try.

If you care about our Village; about keeping it clean, tidy and safe, please support your Parish Council.
